The memorial should b e dedicated to the memories of the lives lost that day. this arguably Islamic symbolism focuses attention on the memorial itself, and the terrorists, rather than on the innocent lives lost that awful day. Anyone who does not believe that our enemies who share the beliefs of the terrorists who struck that day will seize upon any Islamic symbolism and exploit it for their horrific goals is dangerously naive. How can we permit even the tiniest possibility of that happening? The current design is completely unacceptable. Start over.
