It's Better To Be Lucky Than Great
Luc Robitaille wore a Kings sweater for 14 of his 19 seasons in the NHL. He retired as the leading goal scorer in franchise history and is the only King to win Rookie of the Year. His name and face are synonymous with Kings hockey, and has the distinction of playing in every incarnation of the Kings uniforms. His induction into the Hall of Fame is simply a matter of time. And yet, Wayne Gretzky, a man who never played a game inside STAPLES Center, was honored with a statue in 2002. A statue that some believe is cursed. The time has come to rectify this karmic error. STAPLES Center shouldn't remove the statues of Wayne Gretzky or Magic Johnson, but there should be something to differentiate the many eras of sports in Los Angeles. It is therefore proposed that a statue of Luc Robitaille, the King of Kings, to be erected INSIDE STAPLES Center. Let the Star Plaza and the Arch of Fame recognize those other athletes. There is ample room for such a project inside and it could serve as a starting point for a new tradition in Los Angeles. Sign this petition in support of this plan to honor one of the greatest athletes to actually play at STAPLES Center... INSIDE STAPLES Center.
