This petition is directed at: Foras na Gaeilge: Minister Éamon Ó Cuív: An Taoiseach Brian Cowen: Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Dear Sirs / Madams, It has been noted that there will be only two more editions of Foinse, the Irish language weekly newspaper, due to an acute lack of funds for the paper. Irish language organisations have also expressed their support for Foinse. Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge expressed its concern in a letter published in Foinse this week. In his letter, Pádraig Mac Criostail, Director of An Chomhdháil stated: “The requirement for a national Irish language paper is recognised, as a factor which depicts the vibrancy of the living language. It is therefore evident, that there is a greater worth to the work undertaken by Foinse, than the monetary value of the funding provided to publish the paper... It is a cause for concern for Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge that the future of Foinse, the only Irish language newspaper, is under threat. Foinse has served the Irish language community since 1996, and has provided a very important service, providing national, international and Irish language related news in our native language.” We request that you support Foinse, to ensure its survival and to put a proper basis under the future development of the Irish language in print journalism, especially since the daily Irish language newspaper Lá Nua is now gone. It is also extremely important that jobs in the Irish language sector be kept safe in this recession. We would like you to please think about these points immediately and give your support to this urgent request. Sincerely, The Undersigned  --------------------------------------- Tá an iarratas seo dírithe ar: Foras na Gaeilge: an tAire Éamon Ó Cuív: An Taoiseach Brian Cowen: Pádraig Ó Céidigh: A Dhaoine Uaisle, Tugtar faoi deara nach mbeidh ach dhá eagrán eile de Foinse, nuachtán seachtainiúil na Gaeilge mar gheall ar géarchéim airgid an nuachtáin. Tá tacaíocht léirithe ag eagraíochtaí Gaeilge chomh maith. Léirigh Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge tacaíocht i litir a seoladh chuig eagarthóir an nuachtáin an tseachtain seo caite. Sa litir dúirt Pádraig Mac Criostail, Stiúrthóir na Comhdhála: Aithnítear an riachtanas go mbeadh nuachtán náisiúnta trí Ghaeilge ar fáil mar léiriú ar bheocht na teanga. Is cinnte, mar sin, go bhfuil luach níos mó ag baint leis an obair atá faoi réir agaibh ná an méid airgid a chaitear chun an nuachtán a fhoilsiú... Is cúis imní é don Chomhdháil mar sin go bhfuil foilsiú an nuachtáin FOINSE, an t-aon nuachtán náisiúnta Gaeilge, i mbaol. Tá FOINSE ag freastal ar phobal na Gaeilge ó céadbhunaíodh é i 1996 agus is áis ríthábhachtach é chun an nuacht náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta, agus nuacht na Gaeilge chomh maith, a chur ar fáil inár dteanga féin.” Iarraimid oraibh tacú le Foinse le cinntiú go mairfidh sé beo agus bun mar is cheart a chur roimh fhorbairt na h-iriseoireachta chlóite i nGaeilge sna blianta romhainn, go háirithe toisc go bhfuil an nuachtán Lá Nua imithe anois. Freisin, tá sé rí-thábhachtach postanna in earnáil na Gaeilge a shlánú le linn an chúlú eacnamaíochta. Ba mhaith linn go ndéanfá machnamh ar na póintí seo go láithreach agus bhur dtacaíocht a thabhairt don iarratas práinneach seo, le bhur dtoil. Le Meas, Na hainmneacha seo a leanas

Búnaíodh Foinse i mí Dheireadh Fómhar, 1996, le tacaíocht ó Bhord na Gaeilge. Tá sé anois mar phríomhnuachtán náisiúnta na Gaeilge. Tá oifigí an nuachtáin lonnaithe ar an gCeathrú Rua, Co. na Gaillimhe. Cuireann an fhoireann amach eagrán clóite agus ceann ar-líne gach seachtain. http://www.foinse.ie Facebook "Save Foinse" Group: http://budurl.com/s37b
