Scott King Road Rezoning Z06-51 Durham NC
Dear Commissioners and Council members, We are writing regarding the rezoning (Z06-51) on Scott King Rd. across from Herndon Park, which will be discussed before the Planning Commission on March 13th, 2007. We are very concerned about the rapidly changing character of South Durham. It used to be a forested area providing habitat for many birds and small wild animals . With increasing urbanization and asphalting, these natural environments are being quickly lost. The process of development of Southampton across from Fairfield has been an eye opener with developers who are interested in making a quick buck with total disregard to the environmental problems of pollution, erosion, destruction of creeks and natural habitats. It was cut and burn at its worst. Several explosions across the road shook houses and broke flower pots in our neighborhood. The fire pit burnt for days, emitting a black plume of smoke. Please consider carefully the extent and implications of development, so that natural areas can be preserved, and the land is not laid barren by developers. Thank you!
