To our MTA classmates for whom we should have spoken up: We, the undersigned, were your MTA classmates during the 1970's and 1980's when you were being repeatedly subjected to inappropriate physical contact by Rabbi Finkelstein, contact that may well have been sexual abuse. In recent months we have become aware of the emotional and psychological scars that this has left many of you with. During the period that we were classmates, we knew what was happening to you, yet we did not speak up on your behalf. In truth, we did not fully comprehend the nature of what was befalling you, but as we look back, we are surprised and dismayed by our utter silence. Even as we continue to contemplate our inaction and its causes, we deeply apologize to you, our classmates and friends. We hope that this letter will bring you some measure of comfort, and that it will help to save potential victims in the future.
