Aylesford Conservatives
We the undersigned, being residents of Aylesford, object to the present building proposals from Barratt Kent for the Somerfield Depot site on Station Road. We believe the present proposals are totally out of keeping with the village and would be detrimental to the needs of the existing community. We ask Barratt Kent to reconsider their proposals before submitting a formal planning application to take the following concerns into account: 1. DENSITY We do not consider 458 units to be a suitable or sustainable development on a site of this size. We would like to see a better mix of housing, including flats, small houses and larger family homes to provide a mixed environment that will enhance our community and allow families to "trade-up" the property ladder without needing to relocate. 2. TRAFFIC, PARKING AND CONGESTION The proposal for just one parking space per house is clearly insufficient. We ask you to consider a minimum of 1.5 spaces per dwelling to prevent kerbside parking. We also ask to see detailed proposals on how congestion and traffic safety problems on Station Road, Hall Road and Aylesford Village will be addressed. 3. COMMUNITY FACILITIES A development of this scale could bring up to 1,000 new residents to Aylesford Village. Local schools, medical facilities and transportation links are already at breaking point. We would like to see detailed plans about how these issues will be addressed before the development proceeds.
