Things couldn't get worse for a family in Salford who lost a family member in a fatal car accident in Wales. David Broome age 26 was sadly taken away on 22-10-2014 leaving behind 3 gorgeous children. On the 27-10-2014 David's girlfriend Sarah Dixon went to register their 6 week old daughter Shenayah Broome along with David's Mam. They were told they couldn't have David's name put on the birth certificate as the law states the father has to be present and sign that the child is his if the couple are not married. They were sent away with a form and told to get DNA evidence to prove the child was David and take the evidence with the form to court. The DNA had to be obtained via a court appointed testing service. The nearest one is Warrington and the test will cost £700 plus the court fees. Paying for a funeral is hard enough with money people haven't got.
We feel this is appalling and something needs to be done about this so please can we get as many signatures possible to help this poor family who are going through enough as it is.
What is even more mystifying is that Lesbian couples who conceive via IVF are allowed both the birth mother and the partners name on the birth certificate when they are obviously not the father yet in the case of David his girlfriends name and honour is questioned when he is clearly the biological father.

Petition to change the law that dead fathers are recognised on birth certificate for all legal purposes by the mother and/or family of deceased swearing an affadavit or evidence from maternity notes.
