It should cause you to question what we, as a society, believe is a just and moral punishment for those who commit violent crimes. At the age of eighteen, David Woods committed a violent crime for which he was sentenced to death: he stabbed an elderly acquaintance in the process of stealing a television set. Notre Dame Against State Killing (ND ASK) was formed in the fall of 2006 in order to educate the community about the death penalty\'s inherent flaws and present perspectives regarding its anachronistic use in today\'s society. The objectives of ND ASK in fostering education and debate, organizing politically based analysis, and promoting activism to move toward a moratorium, allow a consensus against the death penalty to be formed whether it be for moral, religious, political, or other reasons.
The philosophy of taking education and turning it into action means that the best advocates are well-informed advocates. All are capable of making a positive change on this important issue and are encouraged to find out more about how to participate.
