DEFEND FE IN SCOTLAND

The Scottish Government's budget for 2011/12 has lead to an unprecedented attack on the provision of Further Education in Scotland. The Scottish Funding Council has cut College teaching grants by 10.4% (almost 15% in real terms). Cuts of this magnitude are expected to lead to well over 1,000 lecturers - some 15% of the teaching staff - losing their jobs and the skills and expertise lost will impact on colleges, students and the Scottish economy for a long time to come.
We have already seen James Watt College and Forth Valley College seeking to downsize significantly and announcing large-scale redundancies amongst frontline staff. Angus College in the north and Dumfries and Galloway College in the south are both looking to make significant numbers of frontline staff redundant and across the length and breadth of Scotland FE College managers have launched savage attacks on frontline teachers and educational provision.

Let's be clear, this is not only an attack on the individuals under threat of redundancy, but an attack on the opportunities for communities to find a way out of poverty and unemployment - outreach programmes are being cut all across the country. If these attacks on frontline services are allowed to go ahead, the size of FE provision in Scotland will be drastically reduced, severely limiting opportunities and routes out of poverty and unemployment for huge swathes of the Scottish population.

Please help to defend FE in Scotland by signing the following petition -

"I oppose the savage cuts in frontline services in FE. I call upon the Scottish Government to call a halt to the attacks on jobs and FE provision in Scotland."

You may ignore the request for donations to ipetition which might follow your signing up.
