We, the undersigned, call on Kirklees Council to abandon any plans that would result in an end to the funding of ‘discretionary’ transport for Roman Catholic students attending Catholic schools. The Council should acknowledge the fact that Catholic schools have been a key partner in the maintained schools sector over many years, that this position is enshrined in law and that Kirklees MC has a duty to enable Catholic children to attend their nearest Catholic school should that school be more than three miles from home (2 miles for under 8s).
