It has come to our attention that Maldivian Internet Service Provider Dhiraagu is charging extremely high prices for Internet packages when compared to other Internet Service Providers in the region. In addition, Dhiraagu also unreasonably throttles the bandwidth (even light internet browsing is impossible) to an extremely lower speed even though their marketing campaigns boast "unlimited" usage.
Some of the "Unlimited" package pricing of Dhiraagu is as follows:
Pro Unlimited 15M ( Price: MVR 1791.4 (116 USD), Allowance: 115GB)
Pro Unlimited 5M ( Price: MVR 1579.4 (102 USD), Allowance: 100GB)
Pro Unlimited 2M ( Price: MVR 1049.4 (68 USD), Allowance: 75GB)
Pro Unlimited 1M ( Price: MVR 837.4 (54 USD), Allowance: 50GB)
All the packages mentioned above reduces the bandwidth to 128Kbps after the given allowance is reached regardless the package we choose.
We call upon Dhiraagu to reduce their Internet package pricing to rates that we Maldivians can afford and also to remove the bandwidth throttling. With 128Kbps we hardly can browse Gmail, Facebook, & other essential web services. We remind Dhiraagu that "Fair Usage Allowance" should not be used as an excuse for depriving us of usable Internet.
