As students, alumni, and fans of the University of Illinois, we have not yet been able to bring back Chief Illiniwek as the official symbol of the University that we love. That does not mean that we do not still consider The Chief as our symbol in our hearts and minds. To select a new mascot or symbol is to push out the hope of bringing back what is such an integral part of the spirit of our University and what it means to be a Fighting Illini. Signing this petition signifies that instead of selecting one of the options for mascot that are brought to the University of Illinois administration on February 7th, 2013, you are instead stating that no symbol presented is better than Chief Illiniwek and that you would rather continue to have no official symbol. Please pass this petition on to anyone that feels strongly for Chief Illiniwek and the University of Illinois, most importantly current University of Illinois students. Current students please use your University of Illinois email address when signing this petition so we can show that this stance is well supported by current Fighting Illini. Let’s do this for The University of Illinois Fighting Illini!
