Final supporters
We, the people who live in Ireland, want an end to the institutionalised accommodation of asylum seekers in Ireland under the system known as Direct Provision. We are asking for an immediate investigation into Direct Provision and a reform of reception conditions. Reform should recognise the role that supportive reception condition can play in an effective application process and should move asylum seekers towards independent living at the earliest opportunity.

Direct Provision is the worst ongoing, systematic human rights violation occurring in Ireland today. I believe it will be looked back on in the future in the same vein that we currently reflect on the institutional abuse documented by the Ryan Report.
Direct provision is simply an open prison for people who have not been convicted of any crime. It should never have been introduced and needs to end now. 14 years is 14 years too long!
In 1957, Hungarian refugees housed at Knockalisheen in Limerick went on hunger strike to protest against their conditions and the refusal of their right to work. 57 years on, our state renders the world's survivors our weakest dependents and mistreats them just the same.
STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT DIRECT PROVISION ADVERSELY IMPACTS CHILDRENS DEVELOPMENT. I WOULD LIKE FOR THIS PETITION TO BRING ABOUT POSITIVE CHANGES IN RELATION TO THIS .
This is wrong to treat human beings especially children like this. They are living in open prisons. Would Alan Shatter treat he's own family this way...NO He would NOT. Treat others the way you would like to be treated your self as you never know when you may need others.

The situation of direct provisions in Ireland is nothing short of a disgrace. Human Rights in Ireland? Not allowing people the dignity to work, to be educated or respected should NOT be accepted. It is brutal and wrong.
