Environment Online - ENO is a global virtual school for sustainable development founded in 2000, based in Joensuu, Finland. ENO has worked in co-operation with UNEP, universities and international organisations. Thousands of schools in over 120 countries have joined its activities, many of them from developing countries. They have studied together themes like climate change, forests and ecological footprint and shared the results of learning with their local communities during ENO campaign weeks. Tree planting has been one of the most popular activities and about one million trees have been planted around the world. A new ambitious plan for tree planting and ENO will extend to year 2017. Unfortunately this programme has currently no funding and it will be voluntarily "kept alive" until the end of September 2009. We do not want to run ENO down after nine years. We see its great importance for children and youth and sustainable development in the world. So far, this petition has been signed in 106 countries.
