Let WWI Veteran Frank Buckles Lie in Honor
Frank Buckles was the last surviving WWI veteran. He died February 27th 2011 at the age of 110. Senators and congressmen from his home state of West Virginia have sponsored resolutions to allow his body to lie in honor in the US Capitol rotunda. To date, House Speaker John Boehner and Senator Harry Reid have denied that honor and are blocking resolutions to allow it. Opting for a ceremony at the amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery, to be the extent of honors to be rendered to our last Dough boy. It’s important to let Mr. Buckles lie in honor not only because of who he was, but what he represents. Mr. Buckles was a living link to America's history, an important reminder of the service and sacrifice of 4.7 million American World War I veterans. Allowing Mr. Buckles to lie in honor would be a fitting tribute not just to him , but to an entire generation of American war heroes and their families.” We,the undersigned and as a grateful nation, urge our elected officials to alter their stance and offer a ceremony of recognition and honor by allowing Mr. Buckles lay in honor, in the Capitol Rotunda.
