California Drought: Groundwater Replenishment System Funding
Background:
2013 has had the lease amount of rainfall since California became a state in 1850. Living in California, we can view the direct effects that the lack of water has done to the state. Homeowners, business owners, and especially farmers could help slow the effects of the drought. As more and more groundwater is pumped, the land starts to sink. Orange County in southern California has had great success installing a groundwater replenishment system. The systemtakes highly treated waste-water that would have previously been discharged into the Pacific Ocean and purifies it using a three-step advanced treatment process. The process produces high-quality water that exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards. This petition is being created to ask for funding from the government to build these groundwater replenishment systems through out California.
Some Facts:
- Has a current production capacity of 70 million gallonsof water per day and a total production of 23.5 billion gallonsper year.
