Wonderful Brand Pistachios WARNING LABEL FOR BUGS
This is a petition in order to make it a point to the Wonderful Pistachio brand that a warning label needs to be placed on the Pistachio package to warn customers that worms are likely to be in the food product because the Wonderful Pistachio Company cannot FOR FACT keep out 100% of these worms. See here from the message I was sent in response to me finding worms in a bag of Wonderful Pistachios (my two children had eaten from this same bag, which really had upset me because of NO WARNING LABEL it is that Wonderful Pistachio brand gave me no choice in choosing to give my children a bug free food, they made the choice for me) That is what makes me so determined to have this company put a WARNING LABEL on their product. In this letter they knowingly say they cannot keep 100% of worms out of their product, well than I say warn us consumers of that information on your packaging! SO LET'S PETITION IT :) WHAT I WAS SENT FROM WONDERFUL PISTACHIO IN RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT.......... Dear Miss Alicia Howell: Thank you for contacting Paramount Farms concerning your recent purchase of Wonderful Pistachios. We're sorry to hear you found the product to be infested. We'll explain what likely happened and, hopefully, leave you in a better place towards our product and all types of pistachios in general. The infestation you observed was likely the navel orange worm, a natural field pest. The worm can enter our product while it is still in the orchards. To minimize infestation, our farming operation has an Integrated Pest Management program (IPM) in place as a part of its Good Agricultural Practices. After the pistachios are harvested, they go through a series of mechanical sorting processes as well as a visual inspection step to remove any nuts with insect damage. The nuts are then roasted and packaged. Because the insect is hidden inside the shell, it is difficult to detect without destroying the pistachio itself. Although it's not commercially possible to remove 100% of insect-damaged pistachios, we do our best. Thankfully, these pests do not pose any health risks because of the roasting process but we do understand the thought of their presence is unpleasant. Thank you for taking time to report this matter. We are grateful you supplied us with the lot information for our records and thank you for doing so. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered. We want you to know we feel a deep commitment to the people who buy our products and we'll be in touch by regular mail with a coupon for a fresh bag.
