We, the citizens of Goochland County, DO NOT SUPPORT the closure of one of our elementary schools.

    Nor do we support a Facilities Committee Elementary Study issued by the school administration to determine the cost effectiveness of reducing Goochland’s elementary schools from three to two, as recently proposed by District 2 School Board member, Raymond Miller.

    This study is a waste of school resources and committee member time.  It is being rushed through the planning stages, as the Facilities Committee has yet to meet and/or discuss this proposal, and yet was instructed to have the study completed by late September 2011. This information would likely be included in the budget discussions for the upcoming year.

    The closure of a Goochland County elementary school would result in:

**The reassignment of approximately  500 students

**Increased class sizes at the remaining elementary schools

**The loss of approximately 35 teachers and support staff
