Grovehill Ballpark Project
We, the undersigned, petition Dacorum Borough Council to endorse and support Herts Baseball Club plans to develop a second baseball diamond adjacent to the existing facility in Grovehill, and to erect a permanent outfield fence for both playing fields. ________________ Herts Baseball Club has seen a dramatic increase in new members joining the club and learning the sport. Membership is up approximately 200% since last year and new enquiries are received daily. In 2008 the Herts Baseball Club is fielding three adult teams and is further developing our Little League programme (now at around 100 youth participants). This means that the single playing field at Grovehill must be expanded to accommodate the Club's (and the sport's) rapid growth. Plans are in place to build one of the best baseball complexes in the country. The project is to be implemented in several stages, which include the creation of the second diamond, erection of a permanent outfield fence for both baseball diamonds and, finally, steps to ensure the long-term turf quality of both fields. On Little League Game Days the ballpark will be turned into a baseball paradise for kids with a capacity of as many as 6 Little League fields all of which would have permanent backstops. Such a complex would rival the best baseball facilities in the country, and Dacorum could soon be selected to host the BBF Youth or Adult National Finals. Awards for All (the National Lottery) has already recognized the importance of this project for the local community by providing a £10,000 grant. By supporting this petition, the undersigned recognise the important and long-term investment that Herts Baseball Club and its members are making in the local youth community. Grovehill has been home to baseball in Hertfordshire for more than 12 years. We hope it will continue to grow and prosper in this area as a positive organisation for kids and adults alike.
