Our society, overall, has a general lack of knowledge in regards to firearm safety and handling.  This petition proposes that public schools should adopt a form of firearm safety awareness education. We already teach our children about sex education in public schools, so adding firearm education (gun ed) would be a logical addition to curriculum. Sex education views sex as a leisure activity or even a hobby that people do that have potentially life-changing or threatening consequences (pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections and viruses for example). Gun Ed would allow children to be exposed to the idea of firearm safety and proper handling at a younger age, and help dispel the myths of firearms that are currently being circulated by an ignorant public. The best weapon against injustice and aggression is an informed public, so let's pave the way for the future of our children and teach them about firearms!  Instead of banning firearms, let's teach our children about proper firearm handling and safety.  Tell legislators you want open discussion of educating the public about firearm safety and handling, not banning guns!
