A new collective bargaining agreement has been reached and the season will proceed as planned. It is a relief to know that the threat of a lockout has passed and the game we appreciate remains intact. We demonstrated that fans have a collective identity that carries weight when we choose …

We, the fans of the NHL, and the fans of the game of hockey, are creating this petition.
We deserve to be heard by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, according to whom we are the "best fans" in sports.
The "best fans" don't deserve a third lockout in less than twenty years, all of which occured coincidentally under the reign of Mr. Bettman.
Since Mr.Bettman accepted the role of NHL commissioner, the league's revenues increased from $400M to over $3B. And this in large part due to us, the fans.
If another lockout occurs with a duration above 30 days, we, the fans, will show Mr. Bettman that we are also important.
If this happens, we, the fans, will go on strike as well. We will not purchase any NHL related items for one full calendar year. Furthermore, when (and if) we will go watch a game in one of the 30 NHL arenas, we will not purchase any merchandise. We'll make arrangements to eat and drink either before or after the game.
If Mr. Bettman and the owners continously want to punish the fans of hockey out of personal greed, it is up to us to stop putting money in their pockets. These are not empty threats and all of the signers of this petition will stand by the above written statements.
If a new CBA deal is not reached before Sep.15, @HockeyyInsiderr will deliever this petition to Gary Bettman. The more signatures we gather, the more pressure on the owners to strike a deal within the 30 days grace period after which the fans will take matters into their own hands.

Reaching 5,000 signatures confirms that the frustration regarding potential labor disputes is shared by many. This milestone serves as a clear indication that hockey enthusiasts expect more stability from league leadership.
