Since 1989, announcer John Sterling has called every pitch of every New York Yankees baseball game, devoting himself entirely to the team, its players and listerners throughout the world. With his contract expiring at the end of the 2011 season, there is talk that John Sterling will be replaced. We cannot decide the future of this, but we DO believe Mr. Sterling deserves the ultimate opportunity to be recognized as a great Yankee announcer, tactician and teammate. In his final game affiliated with the Yankees - whenever that may be - we believe John Sterling should manage the Yankee team. Let his broadcast partner, the wily and thought-provoking Suzyn Waldman, act as bench coach. John Sterling deserves the chance to manage the team that he loves and has come to embody. He has earned the right to pull the pitcher. He has earned the right to give A-Rod the take sign. He has earned the right to write in the name of "Derek Jeter" on his lineup card. Before he hangs up his microphone - whether it's this year or many seasons from now - John Sterling deserves a shot at managing!
