Keep Research Alive @ MUN
The Library at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) is planning on cancelling their subscriptions to many key academic journals across the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
This action means that faculty members and graduate students, across departments, will not be able to conduct original research; undergraduate and graduate courses, alike, will not be able to use articles in the syllabus as teaching materials; and ultimately, this will greatly undermine the research capacity of the university, jeopardising Memorial's status as a recognised research institution - the only research institution in the province.
The politics surrounding this issue have been handled very poorly by the library. Undergraduate and graduate students, and the broader public should be made aware of this issue and of the potential devastating effects the library's decision will have on the present and future of the Memorial University community.
