Lorca Seasonal Parklet
Dear Mayor David Martin, Board of Representatives President Randall Skigen, and City Director of Operations Ernie Orgera,
Lorca, its customers and general public would like to put forth a petition to create a seasonal semi-permanent parklet in front of Lorca at 125 Bedford Street in Stamford, CT.
The seasonal parklet would transform the use of one parking space from being able to host one car to instead accommodate up to 25 people and provide a public outdoor space. With hundreds of parking spaces available in garages nearby, the parklet would instead create an engaging environment, a space to socialize with the community, and encourage a vibrant pedestrian-friendly atmosphere in downtown Stamford.
Over the course of the past three years while creating a temporary parklet for Park(ing) Day, we’ve had overwhelmingly positive reactions including “this should be a permanent park” and “we wish that Bedford Street would become a pedestrian mall in the summer.” Each year we’ve had over 50 people engage with our parklet, using it as a space to enjoy the weather, work on their laptops, have lunch, or to play a board game with friends.
Thank you for the consideration,
Leyla Dam
