New Recycling Initiative at Yorktown High School! Replace every trash bin with a new integrated recycling and trash disposal bin!
At Yorktown High School, a new recycling initiative must be implemented. One would think that we already have an effective system as there are blue recycling bins in every single classroom. However, these recycling bins are just treated as normal trash cans by a majority of students. This eliminates the whole purpose of the recycling bins and teaches students that the environment is not that important and can be overlooked or put aside. Schools produce an astounding amount of waste every single day and with no recycling initiative, our community continues to contribute to landfill problems. Recycling reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills which helps to reduce the amount of deadly methane gas, harmful chemicals, and greenhouse gasses emitted into the air. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste. Harm to the environment can easily be avoided by implementing our new recycling system. The new system would replace every single blue recycling bin with an integrated trash and recycling disposal bin. The specific labeling on the integrated system makes it clear what should be recycled and what should be thrown out.An integrated disposal system would decrease the distance between recycling bins and trash cans therefore, making it as easy as possible to throw out and recycle appropriate items. It also greatly simplifies the sorting process of recycling.
