NO HOTEL NEXT TO ST JAMES
The St James PTO and community oppose an application submitted by Jefferson Park, LLC to build a hotel, parking garage, and commercial structure within a block of St. James School, between the school and Burger King, extending back, in a T-Shape to Park Avenue. The hotel will have a parking garage and a restaurant with a liquor license. Virginia crime stats show that outside the home, parking lots have the most violent crime, hotels and restaurants follow close behind. Across the country, there are almost no hotels built next to elementary schools. The plan calls for many exceptions including; rezoning to a Business District, an exemption for a taller structure to allow more rooms, landscaping waivers, parking waivers, an entrance waiver as it is too close to a residential area, to name a few. This application creates a major departure from the City Plans and destroys the integrity and fabric of what Falls Church City is intended to be. We do not oppose planned and responsible development, and if the City needs an additional new hotel it should be farther away from the school and developed in an intended area. COME NOW the undersigned petition the Council against the adoption of any ordinance making amendment for Rezoning and/or Grant of Special Exception for Commercial Height Bonus submitted by Jefferson Park LLC for a hotel at 706 West Broad Street, Falls Church, Virginia.
