Lambeth Council are planning to open two more branches of Tesco in Stockwell: one on Brixton Rd (opposite Vassall Rd) and  one in the Kennington Park Business Centre at 1-3 Brixton Road.

There are already 3 Tesco metros and one large Tesco within 10 minutes walk of Kennington park as well as a large Tesco in Brixton. We do not need or want any more Tescos in this area! 

Local businesses, some of which are long established and some new and thriving - bakers, fruit and veg shop, chemists, newsagents - will all suffer.

A monopoly of Tescos is undesirable for many reasons including the fact that they they employ part-time workers on a minimum wage and do not serve the community in the same way as local shops do.  Lambeth Council needs to stronger in its commitment to support small businesses in the area.

Lambeth Council, we urge you to stop the Tesco monopoly and to support local small businesses. We request that you do not proceed with the plans to open two new Tesco stores in Kennington and do not grant permission for any more to open in the area.
