Today, November 5, 2010, Keith Olbermann was suspended indefinitely without pay for exercising his civic right by contributing to several Democratic candidates. He is not alone at MSNBC; several years earlier, both Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough had done so for Republican candidates. The excuse given for Mr. Scarborough was that he was not a reporter, but rather was paid to give "opinions". I believe this holds true for Mr. Olbermann as well, since no one is likely to confuse him with Brian Williams. This is especially egregious as Fox News is a complete subsidiary of the Republican Party, in contributions, in on-air statements, and in participation in Republican events. Mr. Olbermann's boss, Phil Griffin said that it wasn't totally illegal for staff to contribute, but that it had to be cleared first. Perhaps he had to stand behind the staff and check their voting preferences as well. I'm urging a boycott until Keith Olbermann returns to Countdown.
