Change the Ontario Bee Act.
According to the Ontario Bees Act: R.S.O. 1990, CHAPTER B.6 Location of Hives: "19. (1) No person shall place hives or leave hives containing bees within 30 metres of a property line separating the land on which the hives are placed or left from land occupied as a dwelling or used for a community center, public park or other place of public assembly or recreation. 2002, c. 17, Sched. F, Table." This regulation disables residents in urban environments to keep live bee hives. It known that bees are very good pollinators and are extremely beneficial to our environment. BUT bees and other pollinators are rapidly declining due to numerous reasons. It's our hopes to change the "Location of Hives" regulation to allow beekeepers with 4 or less hives exempt from the "Location of Hives" regulation. With this change, many communities will have an increase in produce (fruit & vegetable) pollination, better gardens and it'll bring a little extra profit to residents with the bee hives. It'll also provide more education and programs for local schools and organizations and will enable new school curriculums. If you'd like to get involved, please sign this petition!
