Coney-Brighton Boardwalk Alliance Petition
We, the undersigned, oppose the use of concrete to replace any part of
the top section of the Coney Island boardwalk. While we recognize the need to
eliminate the use of rainforest wood, we are equally cognizant of both
the physical and financial viability of various sustainable woods as
well as a variety of composite materials, all of which can be used to
replace and maintain a traditional boardwalk that can be enjoyed
throughout the Coney Island and Brighton Beach communities. Thus, for
the health and enjoyment of local residents as well as visitors, we
demand that our historic, iconic Coney Island boardwalk be preserved as
a true boardwalk, not paved over and turned into a sidewalk!
In addition to signing the petition, it is extremely important that each of us – you – take two minutes to call the following officials’ offices and express a message that is polite and to the point, such as:
“I am calling because I don’t want concrete used to replace the historic wooden boardwalk in Coney Island and Brighton Beach. We want a properly maintained boardwalk, not a sidewalk!”
Please make these calls! The number of calls received is counted by our public officials. Every call is crucial in communicating our displeasure with their decision. Only by their receiving many calls that convey a similar message might they be persuaded to reconsider.
