Relocate Royal Berkshire Hospital by building a new, state-of-the-art facility in Wokingham Borough.

On October 2nd 2020 the Prime Minister confirmed funding for the building, or rebuilding of 40 hospitals.

The Health Infrastructure Plan (HIP) is the biggest hospital building programme in a generation.

Royal Berkshire Hospital was listed as number 17 on the Government's priority list as part of HIP, along with the statement that said the Government committed to a "Rebuild of Royal Berkshire to replace ageing estate to tackle significant backlog."

Conservatives in Wokingham believe that the best option for rebuilding Royal Berkshire and to tackle the significant backlog is to build a brand new hospital, on a site that is more easily accessible to all patients, not just those in Reading, that is designed with modern services and joined up care in mind and which has sufficient vehicle access and car parking at all times of day.

We believe that attempting to rebuild at the existing site will cause decades of disruption and not solve the fundamental issues at the current site, namely accessibility, space, capacity, parking and sustainability. It is clear that only by building on a new site can these challenges be overcome. Relocating the hospital would also significantly ease congestion going into Reading.

We believe that the ideal site for the new hospital would be in Wokingham Borough, within close proximity to the M4. This is the only site that will be easily accessible to residents from across Berkshire, where there is space for some or all services to be accommodated, and for the layout and supporting infrastructure to be design to work seemlessly, providing better care for patients, and easier access for visitors.

By signing this petition you are adding your name to those who believe that the future of Royal Berkshire Hospital needs to be on a new build site, in Wokingham Borough.

Thank you for signing.

Reaching this point has been a long and draining climb but seeing so many of you join this push gives me the resolve to keep fighting. The current site is failing us and this response proves that we are nowhere near ready to settle for the status quo.

The new hospital should be a teaching and R&D one. With its excellent business, transport and knowledge networks, Reading is surely well-placed to become a centre of medical delivery and innovation, fully capable of collaborating with and rivalling Oxford.

Due to ongoing medical problems I have to attend RBH on a regular basis. The parking is so bad I have to take two buses taking over an hour to get there. If there was sufficient parking it would take me under 20 minutes

Only sensible option (look at the success of Swindon’s hospital- built out of the town, but easily accessible-with adequate car parking for patients and staff) Relocation of RBH should have happened long ago, before any further wasted investment, was poured into the “land locked” site!

Agree- having worked at RBH buildings not fit for purpose, parking inadequate - staff get blacked in the car park due to congestion on the roads outside on a regular basis - hospital needs rebuild and moving

Quite obvious RBH needs relocating--no room on present site. If they were to try to develop there there would be years of disruption. Important that there is a REGULAR bus service from Reading centre to any new site. ?permanently circulating shuttle bus.

This would give the hospital space to expand and would also be more accessible for residents and also emergency vehicles being near the m4 - this will save lives when every minute counts
