Stop closing our camps (Camp Sky-Wa-Mo and others) and move events back to our areas
Recently it was announced that Camp Sky-Wa-Mo would be "rested" and reevaluted at a later date to see if it is feasible to reopen it. For years girls have attended summer camp here and troops have used it for troop weekends. Many girls will miss out on the opportunity to not only attend this camp, but to attend any summer resident camp because the next closest summer camp is in Knoxville, TN. Not only have we lost the camp in this area, but we have lost the majority of events offered to girls in this area. Parents and leaders are expected to get the girls interested in attending events to Knoxville, which is too far of a drive for many people in this area. Whether you have a girl in Girl Scouts now or not, you probably know someone who is now or will one day be a Girl Scout. If we continue to lose things in our area for these girls then it is only a matter of time before girls lose all opportunities, which Girl Scouts once offered to all girls in ALL areas. Please show your support for our camp, our events, and our girls in this area and in all of the other areas where this is also happening. Please sign this petition to show Girl Scouts that it is not "feasible" to close this camp or any other camp that girls have come to know and love. Show them how important traditions and opportunities are to us. Show them that their decision to close the camp, if only for one season, is a decision which affects more people than they realize. Here is the link to the article that ran in the paper here today. Upon further research on the Internet, Camp Sky-Wa-Mo is not the first nor only and will not be the last (I am sure) camp to be "rested" and then closed and sold. In order to see this firsthand one only needs to do a search on "girl scouts and camp closings" those exact words and in that exact order and i am sure you will see a trend, which is shocking. This is unreal. I am more disgusted now tonight more than ever. Please continue to share this with everyone you know and have them sign this petition. There is power in numbers. It may very well be too late for the camps, which have already closed, and as much as it pains me to say it for Sky-Wa-Mo as well, but we can still send a message, which will be hard to ignore.

I hope everyone sees the big picture and that is Girl Scouts will never be the same again unless everyone takes a stand. Our girls are the ones suffering. Not just current Girl Scouts, but past ones as well as future Girl Scouts.
