Request for City of Edinburgh Council to re instate concessionary lets for community food growing
City of Edinburgh Council
no longer offer a concessionary lets to community groups wishing to
develop land for food growing.
Currently the Council is trying to charge community growers over 1000% more than the commercial rental of prime farmland. (Prime
agricultural land is rented at 2p per square meter and the council
lets our poor quality grassland for 25p per square meter.) Poor quality amenity grassland does not have the same capacity to grow food as well cultivated farmland.
On
16th Jan there is be a deputation on the 16th January at 9 45am to
ask CEC officials to
- reinstate concessionary lets, with
notably consideration in less affluent areas where financial barriers
are stopping local food growing progressing.
- provide fair commercial rent
level 'fit for the purpose of food growing' on amenity grassland, 1p
per square meter.
