We are not trying to prevent an anti-choice, pro-life presence from being at the University of Washington. Rather, what we are advocating is that all debates about abortion on the UW campus be approached in a respectful, responsible, mature manner. We believe that the display which the G.A.P. continues to erect on our campus does not meet this criteria, and that it only creates an atmosphere of accusation and sensationalism. Furthermore, the G.A.P. continues to present information which is medically unsound, such as purporting a link between breast cancer and abortion which has been refuted time and again by the AMA. We believe in the tenants of free speech, but we do not believe that this gives individuals the right to spread misinformation at will. We therefore demand that the G.A.P. either change their approach to anti-choice protesting, or stay off of our campus for good.
