Robin Williams was able to touch the lives of millions with his quick wit, roll-off-the-tongue improv and comedy, and acting roles that have touched and ingrained into the minds of people all around the world.
Whether it was getting us to dance and believe in wishes as a Genie, take soldiers' minds off the war as a fast-paced DJ in Vietnam, a father who will do anything to spend time with his kids, or a therapist that refuses to give up on an intelligent young man, Robin Williams was there to make us laugh, cry, and make us forget about real life for a few hours at a time.
One of his most iconic roles, one that nominated and won him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, was as therapist Dr. Sean Maguire. Although there were many scenes that grabbed the attention of the audience and the Academy, none stick out more now then the famous "Your move, Chief" Park Bench scene.
This petition is to gain support to create a bronze statue of Robin Williams and place it on that bench, so that everyone has the chance to sit with him, stare out into the water, and contemplate life, love, and good memories.

Seeing the momentum grow brings me back to the first time I watched Sean Maguire sit on that bench and change a life. We are almost at one thousand names and having that backing will make it impossible for officials to ignore our vision for the park. This needs to happen! It's the least we can do to honor this remarkable, one of a kind man. I would love to one day bring my son to sit next to his statue and tell him all about the wonderful, funny, generous man, Robin Williams.
I believe this will be a great piece for people who feel alone and hurt to be able to go and sit next to one of the most influential people to live I would love to be able to go sit there one day I shared a birthday with Mr Williams
there is absolutely no reason NOT to allow this public art project given his gifts, and the fact suicide ended his life. We all need to be reminded of the fragility of mental health, and the gift of laughter to heal us.
Yes. To honor the man who bright so much joy to so many. To bring mental health awareness forward. And, so importantly, to give people someone to sit next to in times where they need someone who understands, but have no such person in their life.
Being from South Boston and suffering with Mental Illness , I think putting up a bronze of Robin Williams as Sean would be a well loved and would help people. Knowing how much Robin Williams loved Boston after making the movie and the role that won him a Oscar .
To have meaning through the arts is maybe even more important than historical statues, especially during this time once again of economic, social, and political strife and stress. The overall sentiment and reminder that we all do really care about those dealing with loneliness - would add to such a beautiful spot in Boston. Make Way for Ducklings is art expressed in Boston, why not Robin Williams gifts added too.
Because we all need someone to set next to.
