SAFE Act for Upstate New York

The new law or amendment would loosen the restrictions and provisions on firearms and gun ownership in upstate NY. New York City, Long Island and Westchester County would remain under the current SAFE Act restrictions.
If New York can enact different minimum wage requirements for New York City, Long Island and Westchester, and Upstate New York – then it should be acceptable to enact different gun laws for those regions as well.
Most of the arrests and convictions from the New York SAFE Act have come from New York City and law enforcement officers in Upstate New York have responded differently to the NY SAFE Act than those downstate.
The ultimate goal is to eliminate the SAFE Act altogether.
The amendment would define “upstate” New York the same way that it has been defined in the minimum wage hike argument, with “Upstate New York” consisting of those counties north of Westchester County. The two separate minimum wage requirements for the different regions is an acknowledgement by state law makers that the two areas of New York have different circumstances. Like the minimum wage, the NY SAFE Act should also reflect and acknowledge that New York is really two completely separate regions - New York City and Long Island and Upstate NY.
