Save Sungai Petani DIY Skatepark
In the skateboarding culture, DIY skateparks often refers to parks or skate spots made by the skaters themselves. That involves woodworking, concrete work and a vast variety of craftsmanship to build the most original and creative spaces to skate.
There's no skatepark in Sungai Petani, thus skateboarders in Sungai Petani transformed an abandon basketball court into DIY Skateparks. They have been skating at the court for the past 2 years.
Earlier this month (June 2014), skateboarders from that community just been informed that the local authority going to demolished the DIY Park due to illegal constructions. The word spreads virally on social media and people were angry with the decision of local authority. Local authority has agree to postponed the process of demolishing the park until further notice. Sungai Petani extreme sports community are now being called by the state government to have further discussion with regards to this matter.
The purpose of the building the DIY park is because they don't have a proper facilities to skate. Thus now they have the opportunity to talk to the state government. And they will try to pitch the idea of transforming the DIY Skatepark into a proper skate facilities that meet the proper standard of a Skateparks.
WE NEED YOUR HELP ON SIGNING THE PETITIONS TO BE PRESENTED TO STATE GOVERNMENT THAT WILL STRENGTHEN THE PROPOSAL ON SAVING THE DIY SKATEPARKS AND DEMAND FROM THE STATE GOVERNMENT TO BUILT A PROPER SKATEPARK.
