The single-story building that houses The Smell (venue) is set for demolition. The purpose of this petition is to gather up signatures of individuals who are opposed to this action in order to maintain the volunteer-run venue open as it is an integral part of the L.A. music scene. Along with The Smell, many other businesses are also set to be destroyed in the process including the New Jalisco Bar and many others, as they are on the same block. Music, art, and well-known memories are set to become new additions to ever-growing concrete jungle as another parking structure in the heart of L.A..

The days are long and the prospect of losing this place is exhausting but we keep pushing forward. We need to reach five thousand signatures to force them to acknowledge what we are losing on this block.

The days feel long and the uphill climb is exhausting but I refuse to let this place vanish. We are nearing the one thousand mark and I need you to pour your energy into getting us past that threshold before the decision makers ignore us again.

I love The Smell. I have seen some of my favorite bands at this venue (No Age, Ty Segall, King Tuff, Colleen Green, ect). The Smell holds a special place in my heart. Please take into consideration how meaningful The Smell is to the community.

I spent my high school years attending and playing an insane amount of shows at The Smell with my old band, Plague of Dandelions. The fact that somebody wants to turn such a cornerstone of the LA 00's music scene into a parking lot is simply baffling.

The Smell is a model of DIY done right, largely due to the dedication of Jim Smith. The Smell was there on the ground level working with the community, before the developers, and it is an authentic and important cultural center worth preserving. D.

The Smell is a historic and iconic place for different types of people to gather and enjoy a safe space to enjoy a sober venue that is all ages. To destroy this venue is to destroy a part of the heart of Los Angeles and its eclectic music scene.

The Smell is a cornerstone of the creative arts scene in Los Angeles. I have been a patron since moving to Downtown nearly 7 years ago. For the sake of the creative community and the culture of Downtown Los Angeles, deny this proposed demolition.

I can honestly say the Smell changed my life. Having a place to go every weekend since I was about 12 where I could see amazing local bands...it was a safe haven, for me and I know, for many others. Save the music, save the love, save The Smell.
