How about a petition to SEGA/Creative Assembly to pick up WAR? There are many good reasons:
SEGA already owns rights for warhammer fantasy.
SEGA/Creative Assembly aquired the rights about a year ago. And even if they started developement right away, the release dates for the new games are still 1 or 2 years into the future. WAR could fill the gap.
Small but steady subscriber base.
WAR has only few subscribers, but they are mostly hard-core WAR-players who kept their sub during hard times and wont abandon WAR easily. This should generate enough money to keep the 2 servers running and pay a (maybe half-time) developer.
F2P nearly done.
If you believe what you hear from several sources, the F2P conversion was nearly complete (Ekrund event incorporated some of the aspects:http://www.etaew.net/2013/09/20/warhammer-online-free-play-proposal/). When WAR goes F2P many veterans will take a look at WAR again, increasing player numbers and likely subscription count.
Over 1,000,000 Accounts.
As of September 30, 2008, WAR had sold 1.2 million copies and had 800,000 registered users. This should sum up over the years to more than 1 mio. accounts of players interested in mmos and warhammer. Even if most accounts are inactive, many will give WAR a try when it runs under new management or even goes F2P.
Sourcecode, assets etc. should sell cheap.
With Mythic stacking failure after failure, they can use a bit of cash income for selling out WAR. The cheap version would be to only acquire the server software, though then implementing addons will be difficult. Buying everything, including client software, assets etc., would enable SEGA to truly continue the WAR business.
New content on the horizon.
Missing cities could be added after they are adjusted to the changes done to the game over the years. And the Vampire Addon was at least in an advanced planning state, some assets even made it secretly into the game client.
Wrath of Heroes
Yes, Wrath of Heroes is pro, even if it was a great failure. But with less greed, some design changes and more respect to warhammer lore it could do great. Take World of Tanks as example: F2P with 15vs15 Battlegrounds (yes, no 3rd side): it appeals to all kinds of players, from causual to pro. And WoT is a great success with up to 200,000 players on their servers.
WAR is a great inspiration for new warhammer games.
Even if WAR isn’t top notch graphic wise, it grabs the warhammer fantasy feeling like no other game. Many talented designers, artists and programmers worked on its creation. It could be a great inspiration and source of ideas for new warhammer games, even if those games are no mmo (Creative Assembly’s Total War series is a combination of turn-based strategy and real-time tactics).
SEGA can shame EA.
Simply by doing it better – and this shouldn’t be difficult considering the last years of WAR.
