Save Peoria Lake - Stop Building Islands
The state of Illinois and the US Army Corps of Engineers are building huge islands in Peoria Lake -- a scheme that will turn a large part of the lake into land and reduce the lake to a barge channel. This will waste millions of taxpayer dollars and create very few jobs.
This must stop. These islands will not help the lake recover from siltation and pollution -- and will actually increase siltation.
Just stop it now! Spend these millions on other positive environmental projects, not this! This petition will be presented to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Cong. Aaron Schock (R-Peoria) and other elected officials.
PLEASE COME to a public forum about the river. Lt. Governor Sheila Simon and the Army Corps of Engineers will be present. YOUR PRESENCE IS VERY IMPORTANT. THIS PETITION WILL BE PRESENTED TO LT. GOVERNOR SHEILA SIMON THE AND ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS AT THIS TIME.
