Save The Film Specialists Of The Hawaii Film Office
We the undersigned believe a functioning, efficient and experienced staff of specialists within the Hawaii Film Office is critical to the survival of Hawaii’s film industry, which pumps approximately $150M to $200M per year into Hawaii’s struggling economy and provides employment for more than 4,000 Hawaii residents. The collective salaries to save current Hawaii Film Office staff amount to less than 1% of the annual revenue the film industry generates for the state. We also believe that the present Hawaii Film Office staff is necessary to maintain the efficiency of the statutorily mandated film permitting and Act 88 tax credit certification programs to preserve Hawaii’s reputation as one of the premiere film locations in the world. As members of the film industry and greater Hawaii community, we are demanding that Governor Lingle and her DBEDT Director Ted Liu, take whatever steps are necessary to retain the four branch staff of the Hawaii Film Office whose positions are currently slated for abolishment as part of the state’s layoff process beginning Nov 20.
