Due to proposed campus budget cuts, UC Berkeley’s medical school is in jeopardy of closure, and we need your help!

This puts our history of award-winning innovation at risk, leaving a large gap in the community we’ve proudly served for the past 45 years.

Since 1971, the JMP has proudly trained over 450 physicians, who have graduated with a Master’s degree from UCB and an MD from UCSF, thanks to the strength of two UC campuses and the dedication to a large number of volunteer East Bay community physicians and hospitals.

Loss of the JMP would mean 16 fewer California physicians trained per year, reducing the size of UCSF’s graduating class by 10% and reducing the supply of critically needed primary care doctors for our communities. California currently ranks 43rd nationally in the number of primary care physicians per 100,000 population.

Although UC Berkeley receives approximately $3.2 million annually for the UCB-UCSF Joint Medical Program (JMP) from tuition, fees, and dedicated state funds, only $1.3 million is rendered to the UC Berkeley School of Public Health for the JMP. The current annual cost to run the program is approximately $1.9 million.

By signing this petition, you are indicating your support for UC Berkeley and the School of Public Health to continue funding the Joint Medical Program. (The funding request is made on behalf of iPetitions.com not the JMP. If you would like to donate to the JMP you can do this on our website jmp.berkeley.edu)
