We, the taxpayers of Harris County, petition the Harris County Department of Education Board and the Texas Legislature to work together to close down the operation of the Harris County Department of Education, end its taxing authority,divide its assets among the 26 independent school districts of Harris County, and move all appropriate programs to Texas Regional Education Service Centers or private, non-profit organizations.

HCDE has outlived its usefulness. Now its primary purpose seems to be to justify its own existence.
Can anyone show that HCDE has contributed to the success of any student? I had a student with alleged HCDE services and we never met a HCDE employee nor did we ever received services from them. I guess they just get paid to do nothing. Let's redirect that money to special ed resources directly to the schools where it is needed. Get smart Texas and stop throwing away money!
It is incumbent upon those who are dependent upon taxpayer funding, for the purpose of discharging their duties and responsibilities, to be careful stewards of our hard-earned tax dollars. The HDCE is obsolete, having its purpose superseded long ago, and now needs to be sunsetted to free up those education tax dollars for the benefit of the students. Do this for the children.
As a Harris County homeowner (10033 Kemp Forest, Houston, 77080) I am appalled that the HCDE has been allowed to exist as a tax collecting entity without any citizenry control. It needs to be abolished immediately.
It is my understanding that the Texas Legislature repealed laws governing county school systems so there is no reason for HCDE to exist. The fact that it does exist and continues collecting tax money to fund federal influence is deceptive at best, criminal at worst!

HCDE is taking away business that should rightfully be in the private sector and making Harris County taxpayers subsidize services for entities outside of Harris County. NOT GOOD!
