This petition is calling upon OFCOM the broadcasting regulatory body in the UK to immediately revoke the broadcasting licences held by Channel 9 Television based in Londonderry. We the undersigned demand this because this station has singularly failed to deliver a local tv service ( as per its application to OFCOM ) for the last 4 years. Furthermore Channel 9 has repeatedly broken the terms of its licences and has no local support whatsoever. The content of the Channel is so poor that even OFCOM have demanded an improvement in output. Its viewership is now almost non existent and it is a laughing stock in the broadcasting world where unions such as BECTU have blacklisted it. The continued existence of Channel 9 has deprived the local community and particularly young people of the opportunity to participate in locally produced programmes of local interest. Most worryingly of all OFCOM have now extended all Channel 9 licences until 2012. This has been an arbitrary, unfair and unnaccountable decision. They have done this without ANY local public consultation or a fair tendering process. This is totally unacceptable. We the people of the north west and further afield demand immediate action, close this station down now. This petition is to be sent to OFCOM at www.ofcom.org.uk
