Rose Park Community Council's recent application for improved safety infrastructure was NOT included in the Mayor's recommended budget. The project can still be funded if City Council approves it.
The application was for 2 bulbouts and 2 Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons on the Northwest and Southwest corners of 600 North and 800 West.
Bulbouts are a traffic calming measure, primarily used to extend the sidewalk, reducing the crossing distance and allowing pedestrians about to cross and approaching vehicle drivers to see each other when vehicles parked in a parking lane would otherwise block visibility.
Rectangular Rapid Flash
Beacons (RRFB) can enhance safety by reducing crashes between vehicles and
pedestrians at unsignalized intersections and mid-block pedestrian crossings by
increasing driver awareness of potential pedestrian conflicts.

I have been spending my evenings watching cars speed through this intersection and thinking about my own children crossing to the park. It is clear that we cannot wait for a tragedy before the city decides to install these safety measures.

Seeing this kind of momentum brings me back to the afternoons I spent watching my own children try to navigate that intersection safely. It is clear now that this neighborhood is tired of waiting for change and ready to demand the safety we deserve.

It's unfortunate that an accident has to happen in order for the city to act. They should use our tax dollars to help PREVENT such things from happening and not let it get that far. Here's hoping!
Please create a safer intersection on 600 N and 800 W. With the 600 N off ramps from I-15 and 600 north serving as one of the few overpasses connecting Rose Park to the east side of SLC, this is a very busy, and dangerous, thoroughfare.
This intersection is terrifying. I've seen so many pedestrians nearly hit in the crosswalk, especially at night. People drive far too fast heading west on 6th North from the freeway overpass. There are many traffic safety concerns on the west side, but this tops the list.
We need the extra signage! Pedestrians wait forever to cross at MARKED crosswalks because cars are going too fast. Worse is when they start to cross because one of the several lanes stopped, but the other cars blindly speed by. It is not safe as is. Please add the blinking signs!
My friend was hit on 6th North and 1100 West , even though he was in the crosswalk. The drunk driver went around the cars that were stopped, hit my friend going 50 miles per hour. My friend is in a wheelchair now because of this horrendous hit and run.
I may be late signing the petition. Please slow down the traffic at this intersection.

flags are always stolen at this intersection. Flashing lights is a permanent solution to alert drivers to pedestrians crossing. Lighting at this intersection is very poor too.
