Support Denver Montessori Junior/Senior High School at Smedley
The Denver Public Schools Montessori Education Program consists of four feeder schools and an integrated Junior/Senior High School (DMHS). The feeder school program has been in existence for approximately 10 years and DMHS for two years. The four elementary schools are Dennison, Gilpin, Lincoln, and Sandoval. There are many hundreds of children in these highly successful public programs. The 2014-2015 school year marks the second year of the DMHS program. Current enrollment for DMHS is around 80 students. This number will grow by approximately 50-60 additional students per year for the next four years, at which point the school with be a fully functioning Junior/Senior High School with approximately 300 students. The first graduating class will be in the spring of 2019. Students in the DPS Montessori program come from a wide variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. The students and their families reflect the character of all of Denver's wonderful neighborhoods. Currently DMHS is housed at one of the feeder schools, Gilpin Elementary, and has outgrown the space. This space was only planned to be used for two years before moving into a larger permanent building. DMHS has been presented with the possibility of moving into the Smedley school building in North Denver as a permanent home. We seek supporters who believe in the benefits of Denver's world class public Montessori program and its amazing potential for our community. By signing this petition you are demonstrating that support.
