Vote US Out of Iraq
Please don\'t sign the petition yet. It is still in draft form. We will launch it in a few days. Dear Members of the Texas State Democratic Executive Committee, The signers of this petition urge you to place on the March 4, 2008 Texas Democratic Party primary ballot a referendum question asking the voters whether the United States should immediately end the war in Iraq and immediately bring the troops home. The text of the referendum would read: "Shall President George W. Bush and the U.S. Congress, in support of the men and women serving in the Armed Forces of the United States, immediately end the U.S. occupation of Iraq and immediately begin the safe and orderly withdrawal of all United States forces." The invasion of Iraq was the worst foreign policy mistake in United States history. It was launched in 2003 based on faulty intelligence misleadingly presented to the public by the Bush administration as fact in an effort to prove that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. We have since learned that Iraq did not have any weapons of mass destruction. Iraq was also not involved in the attacks on September 11, 2001. There was no just cause to invade Iraq. More than 3,500 Americans have died and more than 25,000 other Americans have been injured in a war that began under a cloud of deception and descended into a morass of mismanagement. Please place the referendum on the primary ballot, so that we can use the power of the ballot box to end this war and bring our people home.
