STOP THE WOODSON BUS DEPOT

In support of the Woodson PTSO and the Woodson Parking Lot Coalition (WPLC), we the undersigned oppose the FCPS (Fairfax County Public School's) plan for a Woodson Bus Depot, at the intersection of Litte River Turnpike (Rt 236) & Pickett Road.

We ask that the Fairfax County Planning Commission deny the FCPS 2232 application request to build a new bus depot on the Woodson campus.

Woodson PTSO and Woodson Parking Lot Coalition (WPLC is a community coalition that opposes the Woodson bus depot proposal. Co-chairs are Megan McLaughlin & Sandy Hoch) The bus depot could negatively impact the environment, traffic, safety and community green space. FCPS (Fairfax County Public Schools) has proposed a bus depot at the intersection of Little River Turnpike (Rt 236) and Pickett Road. The bus depot would house 51 school buses and 37 bus driver vehicles. In addition, FCPS has proposed a 10 ft tall "industrial-style" chain link security fence, 10 (30 foot) light poles, and the removal of 18+ mature trees, and the loss of 2 acres of green space. The Woodson PTSO passed a resolution on September 14th in opposition to the FCPS proposed Bus Parking Lot. Neighboring civic associations have passes similar resolutions. In addition, the Woodson PTSO has formed the Woodson Parking Lot Coalition (WPLC) with Starlit Ponds neighborhood and other community residents. COMMUNITY TURNOUT for 2 upcoming Public Meetings is critical to STOP this Bus Depot. Braddock District Supervisor John Cook has scheduled a Town Hall Meeting on October 14th (7:30pm) in the Woodson Cafeteria A. The official public hearing before the Fairfax County Planning Commission is scheduled for October 28th. (Time & location TBA) Thank you for supporting this petition to STOP the Woodson bus depot.
