Žižek Delendus Est
Statement on The Left Forum Closing Plenary 2016 featuring a racist, fascist, queer-bashing, imperial propagandist
After years of being sophistically excused for a series of anti-communist, racist and sexist clichés, historical falsifications and a penchant for peddling a “Marxism” whose essential component is a glorification of authoritarian violence as transcendent guarantor of “authenticity”, Slavoj Žižek has openly and irretrievably shown his true colors through his open support for the U.S.-engineered fascist coup in Ukraine in a series of statements and interventions from January to May 2014, and through his open call for a military handling of the refugee crisis propelled by the proxy war Western imperialist powers and their regional allies have been waging in North Africa and the Middle East (September-November 2015).
It has now become far too apparent that not only is Slavoj Žižek not a man of “the left”, but that he has played a vital role in providing this increasingly vague and depoliticized moniker with an extreme right-wing, pro-imperialist and incipiently fascist content. Inviting him to give the closing plenary at Left Forum would have been an oxymoron, if it were not further proof of the craven, commercially-minded cynicism that has pulverized the historical meaning of a political category.
