Implement the 10 X 10 rule!
The 10 x 10 rule is very simple.
Gatherings over 10 people are allowed if 10 feet of separation can be maintained.
Governor Kelly,
We the undersigned are requesting you implement the 10 x 10 rule to improve the safety of Kansas citizens and loosen the constraints on our freedom. You showed vision and courageous leadership in closing Kansas schools earlier than any other state. You've had to make hard choices and we understand it's impossible to please everyone while keeping Kansas citizens safe during the COVID-19 crisis. When churches sued over constraints on their rights you found a reasonable compromise. We believe this is an opportunity for Kansas to demonstrate a more common sense safety measure that improves safety, is economically helpful, and will be less restrictive on our freedoms. We are asking you to exercise your power as Governor of Kansas and again demonstrate reasonable and responsible leadership.
The 10 x 10 rule would allow programs to take place outdoors or in large buildings that include more than 10 people.
Examples:
- A meeting that meets in a large facility like a gymnasium can easily spread people out with 10 feet of separation and allow more than 10 people in the gym. Recovery, mental health support groups, etc.
- Gyms can't open right now. But with this rule they can offer outdoor classes where participants stay 10 feet apart. Yoga, Pilates, martial arts, Zumba, etc.
The current limit of 10 people gatherings is meant to prevent scenes like the crowded beaches in Florida. This rule would still prevent that. But it also allows for common sense gatherings that are still reasonably safe. In light of the limits imposed on gatherings in shopping centers like Wal-Mart (900+ people) we think this is a very reasonable, simple, and common sense request.
